Snug as a Bug | Outfit Post

If you follow me on twitter, then you may have spotted a tweet a week or so ago mentioning that I’d gone from owning absolutely zilch leather clothing – to owning two pieces in one day!
I’ve always been one that embraces the swishy – floaty – fairy princess in my clothing but for one reason or another I’ve quite fancied being a bit more…grungy? I don’t know why, but I’m the girl who always used to be a bit scared of leather…for fear of looking like a try hard or that I might be stepping too far away from my comfort in vintage pieces, but my mind has been changed.

Coat: Zara. Boots: TK Maxx. Shorts: c/o Oh My Love. Blouse: Vintage. Belt: Vintage. Hat: Vintage.

So this is officially my new favourite outfit, which I wore to London on a day trip this week. A jolly good friend is back from a year in Turkey for a mere 3 days before jetting off again to America so we soaked up some proper English Christmas tradition and did a spot of sightseeing. I’m thinking I might do a little post with a few snaps I took of the sights, Yay? Nay? It really is such a beautiful city.

I feel surprisingly cosy and effortless in this and how warm is leather? I didn’t even realise! These pleather shorts from Oh my Love are perfect winter attire, comfy enough to wear casually with a plain tee and smart enough to snazzy up with a bit of bling for a night out. I’ve gone for somewhere in the middle and feel so comfortable in them! They fit nice and snugly, with none of that “Erm girl, I can see a bit too much of what’s under those shorts and it’s not pretty” if you know what I mean? And teamed with my new Zara coat I feel ready to face the winter months without having to pile on the layers committing fashion suicide. Personally I think they’re a match made in heaven and I’m snug as a bug. I’ve also thrown in a trusty vintage silk number to soften the outfit up a little.

p.s. You may start to notice I wear a LOT of black during winter. But I promise for pops of colour here and there :) I’ll try to not be too depressing in my attire ;)

How do you feel about leather? Is it something you’ve embraced?

Outfit Post | The Vintage Set Returns

Today, I feel positive. You know when you get stuck in a bit of an emotional rut and everything seems to be pretty crappy? Yeah, that. Sometimes it can be the biggest chore to pull yourself out of it, but with a little help from some wonderful people in my life (lovely fellow bloggers included) I'm starting to feel a bit more normal. And what better way to celebrate than with an outfit post. Haha. So smooth Megs, so smooth.

Hat: Topshop. Jeans: Topshop. Blouse: C/O The Vintage Set. Bag: Vintage. Boots: H by Hudson. Belt: Vintage Lipstick: Topshop Infrared.
It's no secret that I am a bit of a sucker for The Vintage Set. Not only do they boast the most amazing Vintage finds (this shirt being one of them), but Charlotte is literally such a darling. She started her very own blog last week too, go and check it out :) I always think it's so refreshing to have a lovely person behind a great brand. I was lucky enough to be picked by Charlotte to write a guest post over on The Vintage Set blog, where I answer a few vintage-y questions! If you want to have a nose, click here to read the full interview :)

This outfit, albeit a bit country (which seems to be a regular choice for me?!), is I think slightly transitional. The days of bare legs and floaty dresses are done for this year and therefore it is time for jeans and a good pair of boots with woolly socks. Agreed? Good. And even though it's a little bit more chilly, there's still a wee bit of sunshine holding out. Which is why this shirt is so perfect. It's thin, floaty, pretty and simple, all of my favourite things in a garment; and I'm particularly fond of the collar.

Hope you all had a fabby weekend. Mine consisted of Photography homework, watching an Elvis impersonator and copious amounts of sewing. Bloody brilliant.

Outfit Post | My Fairy Princess Dress

Whilst I can’t wait to share some of my holiday snaps with you lovely lot, I couldn't resist writing about my massively gorgeous new dress first. It’s always such a yummy feeling to come home from a trip away to a mountain of post, and as soon as I spotted this package I couldn’t wait to rip it open to reveal the contents....
Dress: c/o OASAP Loafers: Camden Market Satchel: The Vintage Set

You will probably notice a trend with my outfits…I very rarely opt for the skin tight dresses or skirts; I just don’t find them overly flattering on my figure. Instead, my love lies with anything floaty or ‘swishy’ (yes, I went for the word swishy). That’s why this dress is my idea of heaven; I must admit I feel like a bit of a woodland fairy princess in this. And let's face it, what girl doesn't want to feel like a fairy princess?! (please say I'm not alone here..) Not only does it tick my swishy wishes, it is literally the easiest thing to wear ever. It’s perfect for this summer weather we appear to be having, and will slot nicely into my winter wardrobe too, teamed with some black tights and brogues.

The lace detail to the front and petticoat is a particular favourite; but the very best part about this dress is that it costs only £24!!! YES, £24 I spluttered at the screen when I read it too. The intricate detail alone makes it worthy of a far heftier price tag in my eyes. And the quality is something that overtakes some of the top high street brands. If you like this little gem, you can pick it up from OASAP here.
I couldn’t wait to wack out my little satchel again, and thought it would work well with my Camden loafers. Infact, I think I might wear it again this evening to see Michael Mcintyre (cue excitement overload!!).

What do you think? Are you too a swishy dress lady?

Outfit Post | The Vintage Set

One of the many reasons I love Twitter is for the avenue’s it opens; the possibilities of discovering new people/places are endless. So I was super-duper happy when Charlotte from The Vintage Set sent me a little tweet, telling me to check out her shop. And I am so glad I did, it’s uh-mazin’ (seriously go look, NOW). We got chat-a-lattin and it wasn’t long before I’d made my first purchase…

It arrived in absolutely no time at all, and how utterly beautiful is the packaging? I was so impressed :). As you may have guessed from previous posts, I am a sucker for anything vintage and I literally squealed when I saw this ‘unidays leather satchel bag’….

Hat: Topshop, Top: Vintage, Skirt: Zara, Shoes: F-Troupe, Belt: Primark

Waaa it’s so beautiful it makes me want to cry, haha. It’s the perfect size to fit all my clutter in and I love the suede badge embroidered on to the front, it makes me feel like I’m off to Hogwarts!

The Vintage Set is a new little company on the big wide web specialising in 1920-1980’s vintage garments. I found it so refreshing looking through their site; instead of being swamped with pages of clothes, there are only a few high quality vintage items to choose from in each section. Quality over quantity is something I really love, especially when the prices are so affordable too. With a little bit of discount thrown my way, I picked my little satchel up for only £17 (inc. p&p). And for a pristine leather bag, I think that’s pretty awesome. All the items on the site are marked up A, B or C, A being mint condition to C where the product has noticeable wear, so you know what you’re purchasing from the offset. Ranging from a Camo army jacket to floral midi-skirts there really is something for everyone. Not only are the pieces fantastic so is the customer service; Charlotte was such a joy to chat to and replied to any queries I had almost immediately.

I think it’s so special when you find a really lovely company, and I just couldn’t wait to shout from the roof tops about it to you wonderful lot.

What do you think of the bag? It’s my new favourite.

Outfit Post | Shopping the Vintage Stash | Issue #1

As you’ll probably already know, there’s posts/vids floating around our blogosphere of ‘shopping the stash’; which involves rooting through your old makeup and beauty collection to find hidden gems you’d forgotten about.
Well, I thought why not be a rebel and mix things up a little? (I’m not really a rebel, I’m just trying to sound cool, and I know I’m not). Without further ado I introduce to you… ‘Shopping the Vintage Stash’.

Being a tad vintage obsessed, well not just vintage, anything second hand really, this sort of thing is right up my street. More often than not, you’ll find me in a charity shop or hurrying around a local car boot sale. I had a little rummage through my wardrobe to put together a purely vintage outfit. This is what I found…

The playsuit is actually my mum’s old undies. HA, that sounds so gross when you write it down, but yes it’s true. Apparently, in the ‘olden days’ (mum, if you’re reading, I’m sorry ;)) the ladies used to wear these under their clothing as opposed to knickers and bras; talk about VPL, jeez. Naturally, I nabbed it as soon as I spotted it and I think it’s rather wonderful really. The soft silky fabric means it’s suitable for summer attire, or can be teamed with a big woolly knit for the colder months.

These original suede Santa Fe cowboy boots are from the yummy ladies over at Annie and the Mannequins. If you haven’t heard of them before, you should definitely check them out; some really gorgeous vintage finds! I think I paid around £20 for these and I pretty much live in them. The quality is perfect, and they’re so comfy.

This leather clutch bag has to be one of my favourite ever vintage finds. Its intricate detailing is breath taking; the Egyptian print is raised and I love the delicate touch of the wicker framing. £2 is all I paid for this, from a local carboot; totally worth it right?

My pearl earrings are pretty much permanently fixed to my ears, and also used to belong to my mum! (there's a trend here..) I think they're so cute.

Lastly, the necklace. It means such a lot to me, it was a gift from my beautiful nan; and the photo inside is of her wonderful self and me when I was just a wee nipper.

All in all, this outfit cost me a grand total of £22! What do you think guys, have I convinced you to shop your vintage stash? You might surprise yourself with what you find :) watch this space for issue #2...

Outfit Post | Heart Boobs, Oh yes.

Last night, I spent the evening sipping on one too many koppaberg’s & stuffing my face with hog roast (nom); at a very lovely ladies wedding reception. I haven’t been to a wedding for absolutely ages, so thought it would be silly not to invest in a new dress for the occasion! & I also thought; why not cease the opportunity to do my first outfit post for y’all?! ;) I don’t know why, but I was a little bit nervous of posting an OOTD kinda post; just in case you guys were sat there thinking, ew, that girl looks vile...but I decided to do it anyway! Ha.

FACE: Collection 2000 lasting perfection concealer: Fair. bare minerals SPF15 foundation: medium beige. Bare Minerals all over face color: warmth. Nars Blush: Desire. Bare Minerals Illuminating mineral veil. Body Shop shimmer cubes. Collection 2000 fast stroke Eyeliner. Collection 2000 Glam Crystals. Topshop lipstick: Infrared.
As you may have read in one of my previous posts, I’m no longer a raving fan of topshop, & their hugely overpriced garments. However, this dress had to be an exception. I mean, seriously, it’s ridiculously cute isn’t it? Hearts on your boobs, what more could you want?

Yes, it was quite pricey. £48 to be exact; BUT I did get 10% off, which completely justifies the purchase, right? If you want to get your hands on it, you can find it here. My shoes were stolen from my mother & are Dorothy Perkins, ooh la la. The vintage bag I picked up for £2 from a charity shop in Leicester, mmhmm, you read that right, TWO POUNDS, I’m pretty much in love with it. I thought I'd drop in a cheeky face picture too; of me looking rather tipsy & awful, just in case you wanted to achieve that sort of look ;)

I’m spending today mainly eating roast dinner, and begrudgingly leaving the house to watch England play, meh. Did you all have a lovely weekend? Hope so :)

Car Boot Sale | My guilty pleasure..

One bonus of living in the middle of nowhere is that the villagers seem to make the most of all the fields we have; which means....CARBOOT SALES! I absolutely love them & could easily spend all my pennies at them every weekend. If you're not familiar with the term, in short, people basically bring all their old clutter or unwanted items & sell them for next to nothing. I discovered a rather large one in a village near my house, so I thought I would share with you what I picked up :)

Like the majority of my spending habits, I didn't need any of this stuff, as such, but I totally did. Know what I mean? ;)

Wood Mirror - £4: I am actually in love with this mirror, it's so beautiful, it's in amazing quality & i think it look quite expensive too. Not sure where I'm going to put it yet but I sort of had to have it when I spotted it :)
Egyptian Leather Clutch Bag - £2.50: Oh my, is this not the most incredible bag you've ever seen? Probably not, but I think it is! The detail is incredible; I don't know if you can see, but all the prints are raised & it's surrounded by wicker thread all around the edging. It's surprisingly heavy & even though it's a bit battered I love the look!
China Perfume Holder - 50p: I think this is so cute. I don't think i'm going to put perfume in it, because I have no idea where it's been haha. I think it will look beautiful on my dressing table though.
China Polar Bear Trinket box - 50p: I picked this up for my little sister, she went to Germany this week on a school exchange, & to cut a long story short, the airport lost her suitcase. Needless to say she was devastated, so I wanted to buy her something to cheer her up :)
Glass Pot - £1: This was brand new in it's box, with the stickers & all! I love it, & I'm using it for my cotton wool pads :)
China plate - 50p: I love the detail on this. It's sat looking all pretty on my dressing table with all my rings piled nicely on top.

Picking up all of this for under a tenner is pretty good going, don't you think?

The boyf & I are planning on buying our first house together next year; & I'll definitely be dragging him along to a few of these to pick up pieces of furniture & such to fill the house up a little. You can get your hands on some pretty amazing stuff, & it's so ridiculously cheap. I love all things pretty & vintage, so walking in to a field full of someone's old stuff makes for one happy Megs.

Do you love a good Car Boot? Or do you think you'll be making a trip to one now?

New Love: Zara Messenger Bag

Bag: Zara
Dress: Ark Clothing
Belt: Vintage
Boots: H by Hudson

I saw this bag on the Zara website a few weeks ago and I just HAD to purchase it; & since then I’ve also seen it mentioned by Lily of What I Heart Today on twitter. (Amazing blog, check her out!) Isn’t it gorgeous? I absolutely love the pale grey colour and how it goes so well with the rose gold detail. I loved it so much I bought it in black too. Well, it would’ve been silly not to given the amazing price tag that goes with it..

& I thought I would share my love with you all, what do you think?
